OJEMB Manuscript Formats

IEEE OJEMB is a scientific journal at the confluence of science and technology. This choice is motivated by the observation that the future of medicine is in a combination of biology and technology. Fostering interactions at the intersection of these disciplines is key to promote discoveries relevant to improving clinical care. This journal is the first one to serve the community of innovators at the intersection of these fields.

To facilitate the exchange of scientific information among the members of this community, IEEE OJEMB offers two formats, a science-journal format for papers with a primary focus on reporting scientific results:

Format for a “science manuscript”:

  • Introduction
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusions
  • Materials and Methods
  • Supplementary Materials

Science Manuscript Template

and a more traditional IEEE format for “technology manuscripts”, which are manuscripts with primary focus on the development of new devices, methods, and technologies relevant to the field of biomedical engineering.

Format for a “technology manuscript”:

  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusions
  • Supplementary Materials

Technology Manuscript Template

For both formats, to increase readership and make your paper more accessible to the clinical community, we include a brief Significance Statement that summarizes the main findings or “take-home message” of the research. We also encourage authors to include a visual summary of the work, an image that sums up the main idea of the paper.
